ACCESS, SECURITY & FIRE SYSTEM OVERHAUL FOR MIXED-USE COMMERCIAL BUILDING
Sector: MEPH
Sites: 1 Site, Surrey
System: Advanced Fire Alarm System With Apollo Devices Plus Paxton Access Control Works
Background
P & M Electrical Services are a well-established Surrey based firm working nationwide, that has traded since 1992, providing a first-class reliable service in all areas of Electrical installation and contracting.
P&M has contracted A-Plus Security on several MEPH jobs.
Challenges
As with many of our commercial and mixed-use building projects, the building was semi-live, with occupied spaces on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, so all works had to be minimally invasive and scheduled out of hours to limit disruption for tenants on site, working Monday to Friday daytimes. Due to the existing cabling being Pyro and not in a great state, all cabling had to be replaced throughout to give a fully tested system at handover.
Solutions
We undertook a comprehensive security enhancement initiative. This included replacing the existing systems with a new encompassing system throughout the site, with new cabling and devices installed throughout the premises.
The system included over 200 Apollo devices spanning the basement, ground, multiple floors, and roof plant space to be strategically deployed. The existing Xpander wireless devices within the communal area were retained and integrated due to no cable access. Additionally, we replaced the Paxton access control system to accommodate two new lifts, resolved network issues, and updated software to the Pro version for cause-and-effect programming and lockdown functionality. New SA66 locks were also fitted to the new doors installed on the fire route to ensure full compliance. Lastly, we then installed a 1-loop Advanced Go panel on the ground floor within the retail unit. The system was interfaced to the Advanced Go and 2 x conventional systems in the ground floor retail units to allow notification and delayed evacuation should each other’s systems activate. Additionally, the system was also interfaced with the lifts for alternate grounding, directional fire escape signage, automatic doors, AOV vents, Access control and electrical systems on-site.
